Redeveloping Baltimore's State Center

The Vision

Located in the heart of downtown Baltimore, State Center is being reimagined as a revitalized neighborhood that works for everyone. A 60-year-old State office complex occupies some of Baltimore's most well-situated land, just steps from trains, buses, and thousands of residents. Here's why its redevelopment matters, and what it means for our community.

Where Baltimore Connects

As one of Baltimore’s most promising locations for connectivity, State Center is at the intersection of the Baltimore Metro, Baltimore Light Rail, and multiple CityLink bus routes. Less than a half mile walk from Penn Station, State Center offers commuters direct Amtrak and MARC rail access to the full Northeast Corridor. State Center also features convenient access to major thoroughfares including Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Howard Street, North Avenue, and Interstate 83.

Ready For What's Next

State Center sits on some of Baltimore's most connected land, and its next chapter is just beginning. The four on-site buildings represent more than 1.75 million square feet of space ready for reinvention, and the surrounding neighborhoods are primed for the kind of pedestrian-friendly streets and public spaces that make urban living enjoyable. Building on the City of Baltimore’s 2024 State Center Vision and Market Study, what comes next is a neighborhood hub, designed to be active and welcoming.

Subway

Transit reliance surrounding State Center far exceeds the City-wide average. Nearly half of all households do not have a car available on a daily basis, instead relying on walking or transit to serve their needs.
